Connecting to #FlyCon Author Chats using an IRC Client
Download the program Vortec (using this link)
Install.
Run program
You should see something that looks like this, although the colour scheme might
be different:
The window in the middle is the important bit. You need to enter
four
pieces of information in here. I have circled and numbered them in red.
-
In the top left corner where it says NETWORK, type: SFF Net
-
This is important.
Next to this is SERVER, type: irc.sff.net
You must type it exactly as it is here, as this is the address you want to
go to.
-
Below these on the left is NICKNAMES. This is the username you will have
during the chats. You can use whatever you want, as long as someone else isn't
already using it. By putting in two different nicknames, you have an
alternative if your first choice is in use. You can use your first name, maybe
with a number after it.
This can be changed later so don't worry too much about it.
-
This is important.
In the bottom left corner is a box "Connect immediately". CLICK THIS BOX so it
has a tick in it.
Now stop to check you have all 4 pieces of information the same as that shown
in the window (except your username, this should be different to that shown).
Hit CONNECT button, shown here by the red arrow.
Wait.
After a few seconds, this should appear. If it is too small, you can make it
bigger with the maximise button (shown here by the red arrow).
This is important.
As shown by the second red arrow, type: /join Flycon
Now your should have something that looks a little like the window below,
depending on which people are there. Type: hello
And that is it.
